G80 EV – Genesis released an all electric version of their top model the G80 in September 2022. The new model comes with everything Genesis could throw in the car along with a 500km range.
Featuring a twin motor AWD system that provides 272kW of power and an immediate 700Nm of torque. This allows the luxury saloon to go from rest to 100km/h in sub 5 seconds in sport mode.
The 87.2kWh battery provides the long range and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 22 minutes when plugged into a 350kW DC fast charger.
I can attest to the fact that at home on a 10AMP power point it takes a lot longer than that.
The G80 is very stylish, sleek and seemingly glides along the freeway with ease.
Inside its luxurious and spacious. Little features like heated and cooled front seats with massage function for the driver, a huge central screen for infotainment and connectivity technology, auto headlights and wipers and in dash indicator cameras all add to the ambiance.
While there is wireless charging for smart phones unfortunately smart phone mirroring isn’t wireless.
The Genesis G80 EV drives as good or better than any EV I Have driven so far. Priced from around $145,000 plus the usual costs it isn’t cheap, but then again no Electric cars are.

Quick Genesis G80 EV AWD thoughts
- Genesis continues to build excellent cars, the latest G80 EV is no exception
- It retains the elegant premium saloon feel, just now whisper quiet as a EV
- Inside its particularly comfortable for all occupants, especially the driver.
- The driver’s seat has 18 different adjustments that can be made.
- Heated and cooled front seats, huge central screen, ambient lighting, massage function for the driver, wireless charging and tri zone climate controlled A/C.
- For a big EV saloon its performance is sub 5 seconds for 0-100km/h, that’s pretty good. The ride and handling is excellent.
- Its smooth, quiet and a bit of fun to drive.
- Limited boot space and ridiculous long recharging times from home are two serious limitations though.
- But the 500km plus range is better than many other premium brand offers.
- Charging at a 350kW charger is fast, at home it’s ridiculously slow.
- You do get choice of 5-year Chargefox subscription or home A/C charger and install, included in Electrified G80 purchase price
- One thing I noticed, and its not limited to the Genesis, but rather a problem with all EV’s, is that if its hot and you turn the A/C and fan on high you can lose up to 20% of your range.
- It took me ages to find the charge point, its well hidden in the front grill. However it is manual operated, even the Kia EV6 has an auto flap.
- One really cool feature the G80 EV has is a screen that shows where the nearest charging station is and what it is.
- Driver ergonomics and available information are spot on

Genesis G80 EV sits in rare space. Not only is it a large premium saloon, but its an EV as well, which means a very small choice pool.
You could look at Mercedes Benz EQE, or the Audi e-TRON.
Genesis G80 EV final thoughts
First up all Genesis vehicles provide superior quality and functionality for a premium but value-based price.
The G80 EV is expensive, but not when compared to other premium brand offers.
Driving the electric G80 is a lot better and easier than you might imagine.
Its quiet, smooth, responsive, and comfortable.
The only real issue is, like all EV’s, the recharging and where and when its done

Some more Genesis G80 EV notes
Released late in 2022 the G80 EV is the first-ever all-electric luxury sedan from Genesis in Australia.
Genesis states that the electrified G80 AWD provides a refined, zero-emission range halo model, sitting above G80 3.5T AWD Luxury Pack, while setting a new standard for luxurious electric sedans.
Electrified G80 features a twin motor AWD system that provides 272kW (from dual 136kW front / rear motors) and an instantaneous 700Nm of torque, to propel the luxury four-door from rest to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds in near-silent refinement.
An 87.2kWh battery offers up to 520km (WLTP) of long-distance touring range and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 22 minutes when plugged into a 350kW DC fast charger.
EV G80 wraps this advanced technology in a striking large sedan that embodies the audacious, progressive and distinctly Korean Genesis brand DNA to deliver athletic elegance.
Electrified G80 Model Range
G80 EV is offered in one highly equipped ‘Luxury Package’ grade.
*Included in the purchase price of every Electrified G80 is the choice of 5-year Chargefox subscription or home A/C charger and installation.
What is the Genesis G80 Exterior like?
Electrified G80 applies the Genesis Athletic Elegance design philosophy along with an array of EV-specific styling elements to create a striking large luxury sedan.
The Genesis-signature Crest Grille evolves into an aerodynamic crest featuring an inverted G-Matrix pattern designed to emphasise Electrified G80’s sustainability mission
Electrified G80’s charging flap is hidden in the top right corner of the grille and, when opened, reveals a twin chrome line design that maintains a consistent design identity.
A solar roof integrated in the roofline enhances Electrified G80’s energy efficiency by generating supplementary electricity from sunlight.
A choice of 11 exterior colours are available, 10 of which are shared with G80 2.5T and 3.5T plus an exclusive hue, Matira Blue, let every customer tailor Electrified G80 to their taste.
Capturing the spirit of Matira Beach in the South Pacific Ocean, Matira Blue utilises a special pigment that creates a colour that varies with the viewing angle, just like its namesake, from cobalt to emerald-blue and turquoise.
There are nine gloss colours for Electrified G80 along with the optional Verbier White and Makalu Gray Matte.
What is it like inside?
Electrified G80’s interior design is inspired by a Korean architectural philosophy that emphasises the ‘Beauty of White Space’, to create a serene and luxurious experience for occupants.
Electrified G80 is available with Obsidian Black, Havana Brown, Forest Blue and Electrified-exclusive Glacier White interior colours, each featuring a bespoke quilting pattern for the Nappa leather-appointed seats.
In line with Genesis Motor’s commitment to sustainable mobility, Electrified G80 uses low environmental impact natural and recycled materials throughout the cabin, these include:
- Bio-processed Nappa Leather that uses a natural dye, for the seats, console and rear seat armrests
- Fabrics that use recycled PET & recycled nylon yarn for the headlining, pillars and sun visors
- Forged wood console, crashpad and door garnishes, which are manufactured by processing birch wood left over from the furniture manufacturing process
Genesis G80 EV Infotainment and Connectivity technology
The Genesis if packed with technology including:
14.5-inch Augmented Reality (AR) View Navigation
Electrified G80’s crisp and clear 14.5-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen multimedia unit features a futuristic Augmented Reality (AR View) navigation function.
12.3-inch 3D cluster (EV-dedicated GUI)
A 12.3-inch high-resolution full-digital cluster and EV dedicated GUI recognises the driver’s eyes through a cluster-mounted camera to present the display in 3D view.
The cluster features three themes, each linked to the vehicle Drive Mode.
Genesis Integrated Controller with handwriting shortcut
Electrified G80’s console-mounted Genesis Integrated Controller gives front occupants an intuitive and luxurious way to access the various vehicle functions.
The centre of the GIC functions as a handwriting recognition touchpad as an easy-to-use alternative to keypad selection.
Lexicon® by HARMAN Premium Audio
A 20-speaker Lexicon by HARMAN Premium Audio system featuring Quantum Logic surround technology provides superb sound quality in Electrified G80 and features Apple CarPlay,Android Auto and AM/FM/DAB+ digital radio with Radio Data System (RDS).
Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) – dual 9.2-inch displays
Two adjustable 9.2-inch HD monitors are placed conveniently behind the front seatbacks in Electrified G80, to present independent media sources to each rear occupant, with audio through their own 3.5mm headphone jacks, and media selection via the intuitive touchscreen interface.
The centre armrest control panel can be used to interface with the RSE, to further enhance the entertainment experience.
Genesis G80 EV Powertrain
Electrified G80 is offered with a single battery-electric, all-wheel drive powertrain delivering totals of 272kW and 700Nm from front and rear 136kW, 350Nm motors.
The result is responsive performance and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
A Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) can separate or connect the motor and drive shaft according to driving conditions, including vehicle speed and driving mode. The system lets G80 seamlessly switch between RWD and AWD to maximise efficiency.
By adjusting the level of regenerative braking (and rate of deceleration) via the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, the driver can minimise the use of the brake pedal for a further efficiency improvement.
Electrified G80’s Smart Regenerative Braking 2.0 system also optimises coasting efficiency by automatically adjusting the amount of regenerative braking in three stages, based on the speed of the vehicle ahead, the following distance, and navigation map road sign data such as a change of speed limit.
An i-PEDAL regenerative braking mode enables a single-pedal driving strategy that allows acceleration, deceleration and stopping of the vehicle using only the accelerator.
Maximum range from the 87.2kWh power battery is 520km based on the WLTP testing protocol.
Electrified G80 features a 400V/800V multi rapid-charging system that lets customers plug into a range of charging infrastructures. The driving motor and inverter can boost the voltage from 400V to 800V – the optimal level for the system – for stable charging performance.
Plugged into a 350kW rapid charger, Electrified G80 can charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 22 minutes.
Genesis G80 EV additional technology
Exterior Vehicle To Load (V2L)
Electrified G80’s exterior Vehicle To Load (V2L) Powerbank function gives users a household-grade source of electric power (3.6kW output) for when they’re enjoying the great outdoors.
Exterior V2L can be used to power/charge electric appliances/devices such as electric bicycles, scooters or camping equipment.
The system can also provide Vehicle To Vehicle (V2V) charging functionality via the portable emergency charging cable (ICCB), to charge another electric vehicle.
Electrically Assisted Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control (eDTVC)
Torque vectoring technology in Electrified G80 enhances handling and reduces understeer through partial braking and motor torque compensation during cornering.
The eDTVC system distributes torque to the outside wheel when cornering, while assisting yaw-moment through inner-wheel braking control.
By providing a compensating motor torque, the system prevents unintended deceleration that may otherwise result from the active brake control.
Road-Preview Electronic Control Suspension (Preview ECS)
Electrified G80’s Road Preview technology utilises the front windscreen-mounted camera to detect speed bumps and potholes, and then optimally controls the Electronic Control Suspension.
By pre-emptively adjusting the damping force at each wheel, the system helps minimise impact harshness to deliver optimal ride comfort.
Active Noise Control – Road (ANC-R)
Active Noise Control-Road (ANC-R) technology features in Electrified G80 to provide a refined driving experience.
The technology significantly reduces the noise level experienced by occupants, by measuring and analysing road noises – using an array of sensors and microphones – and then simultaneously creates sounds at opposite phase to cancel them.
Solar Roof
Electrified G80 features a solar roof that harnesses the power of the sun, and uses it to charge the power battery, to incrementally increase driving range.
Genesis G80 EV Safety
Electrified G80 takes passenger safety to the next level with differentiated collision-energy path structural design, an array of advanced active safety & driver assistance technology, and a 10-airbag suite.
Among these is the pioneering Genesis centre side airbag, which prevents or lessens injuries caused by collisions between front occupants, or collisions of occupants with interior components, in the event of a side collision.
Here come the long list of acronyms for the safety features.
