Mahindra has just launched a family friendly, mid-size SUV the XUV700. They are aiming at a low entry price but good value for money.
There are two variants:
- AX7 $36,990 (driveaway)
- AX7 L $39,990 (driveaway)
The interior has the most obvious features to impress the customer.
There are two high-definition 10.25” digital screens one for the driver merging into the middle infotainment screen.
There is a large sunroof and A neat interior with White leatherette upholstery
It has three rows of seats but like others in the medium SUV class the third row is hardly usable and if in an upright position there is hardly any cargo space.
Some good safety features but no cross-traffic alert function.
It drives like a soft, comfortable family car.
The cult like followers of their tough Ute could well be some of the customers.

The power train is a 2.0 L turbo-petrol engine, with modest power of 149.2 kW at 5000 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1750 rpm. A good pint is that the engine runs on 91 RON Unleaded
It has a 6-speed automatic transmission and is two-wheel drive only through the front wheels.

The medium sized SUV segment in the Australian market is currently the biggest and fastest growing SUV category and is packed with products from many companies. Prominent models from well established companies include the Toyota RAV 4, Nisan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage. But there are also some more recent players from China such as Haval and the all-electric BYD Atto.
